Warbird Racing Report

I had a great time last weekend attending the Sacramento Area Modelers Valley of Speed Warbird race. The SAM club has developed their own brand of racing. It involves scale warbirds that must comply with a size formula. There are three classes Gold Silver and Bronze. Each class has a minimum time that can be flown to control the speed. The goal is to come as close to the maximum speed without exceeding it and still win the race. They flew 4 rounds in each class earning points in each race that when totaled for the day determined the winners. It was a great day very exciting with some fast close quarters flying. Speedworld Jet Event

This Thursday through Saturday the Speedworld RC Flyers will be holding a jet rally. I plan to be there on Saturday. Here is a copy of their flier and there is a map below to help you find the field. Scale Masters Championships this Weekend in D10

This weekend the U.S. Scale Masters Association is holding their National Championships here in District X at the Woodland Davis Aeromodelers field. It is running through Sunday. The quality of aircraft at this event is amazing. If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and come see the action. I’ll be there today and I’d love to see you.

Bonus Items for the July 2013 District X Column

The July 2013 column I prepared for Model Aviation Magazine couldn’t hold all of the pictures and video I had so I’m putting on our District website so that you can all enjoy it.

There are 2 photo albums. The first from the 2013 Multi-Rotor Challenge held at the Palomar R/C Flyers field in Fallbrook.

The second album was from a competition held in the Bay Area at the F3B Soaring Association’s field in Fremont.

Finally we have a beautiful video from Team Echelon with some truly breathtaking scenes. Enjoy.

The 2013 Castle IMAA Mini-Fest

For years I heard people talk about the big RC event held each Memorial Day weekend in Atwater California at the site of the former Castle Air Force Base. For years I heard about it but never went, that was until 2010, now I’ve been there 4 years in a row and it is something to see. If you haven’t been there you need to make plans to go next year.

We made it a family event my daughters, my parents the daughters boyfriend and myself went together and had a great time. It is a combination flying and social event. With a heavy emphasis on social.

You can make it a 4 day event. The kick off is on Thursday and its non stop flying through Sunday. In the evening there is night flying, and a lot of hangar flying.

My thanks to District X Associate Vice Presidents Scott Malta, Rick Maida, and Denny Baker and IMAA Chapter 679 for making it happen.
