District 10 Free Flight Envoy

My name is Forrest Barton and I have graciously accepted the honor to serve as your Northern California AVP. I have been an avid modeler my entire life. Introduced as a boy to aviation by my father who in turn has been an avid modeler all of his life. Over the years I have dabbled in just about every facet of model aviation you can think of.

As a kid I was involved with sport flying and introduced to competition with the Society of Antique Modelers. As I got older I spent time with sailplanes and flew control line with my father, which he still flies to this day. I worked in the retail side of the hobby for a bit while in school. While doing that I dabbled with helicopters for a few years. My knowledge of aviation led me to a job in full size aviation like my father. In turn also like my father I ended up getting my private pilots license.

Over the coarse of all these years I have enjoyed scale flying and float flying. Over the past few years my focus has been giant scale, turbine aircraft and slope soaring. Over those years I have been a member of many local and regional clubs, organizations and SIG's. Serving as an officer in many different capacities with several different groups. I am also currently a field rep for a couple different manufactures. I am married to my wonderful wife Shannon. She is very supportive and understanding that modeling and aviation in general is a big part of my life. We have an incredible son named Daniel who is a little over two years old. He already as most boys has an interest in flying. He enjoys going to the flying field or the local airport and seeing the aircraft. Even around the house if her hears an airplane or helicopter he has to stop and see if he can spot it overhead. I really look forward to passing on this passion of aviation to my son. As it was passed on to me by my father. As your AVP I also look forward to meeting you around Northern California and hearing about your interests in modeling and sharing this passion of aviation with you as well.
