District 10 Free Flight Envoy
Scott was born and grew up in Jamestown, NY. His Father, Carl Malta, a long-time member of the Jamestown Flying Aces taught Scott to fly R/C airplanes in the days of “Orbit” radios. Many of Scott’s fondest childhood memories center on the model airplane hobby. At 17, he joined the Air Force and while he found it difficult to pursue model aviation, he did rack up more than 2300 hours flying in KC-135 Stratotankers, flying around the world refueling other aircraft in mid-air. After ten more years, as an Air Traffic Control Officer and Airfield Manager, he retired as a Captain. Shortly after retirement, he moved back to one of his former Air Force Bases, Castle, in Merced CA, where he became the Airport Manager.
It was following his move back to Castle that he was reintroduced to flying model aircraft. Scott is currently President of the Central California Model Flyers, AMA District X - Associate Vice President and IMAA District X -Assistant Director. In addition to being an Airport Manager, Scott is a Commissioner on the Merced County Airport Land Use Commission, 1st Vice President (will be President in July 2011) of the Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, FAA Safety Team – Regional Representative and is an Elder/Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Ministries leader and part-time preacher in his local church. He is married to Barbara “Allen” Malta and has a daughter, Brittany, who is a senior at Liberty University in VA and a son, Joseph, a junior in Merced High School.
Scott also serves as Host, Safety Observer, and Landlord during the IMAA West Coast Festival, traditionally held at Castle Airport across the Memorial Day Weekend.
