District 10 Free Flight Envoy
I have been a member of the AMA since 1986 when I took up radio control flying at Chula Vista Radio Control Club. I have served 20 years on the board of that club and twelve years as president. My service to the AMA began in the late 1990’s as contest coordinator for District X and then in 2008 I became an AVP.
As a sixth grade teacher I formed many school activities and clubs revolving around model aeronautics. My own enjoyment of building models when I was young was visited on those children over and over again (rocketry, gliders and then RC). I served as president of the San Diego County Model Clubs and in 2000 I was the contest director of the F5B FAI world championships held at Fiesta Island in San Diego.
Twelve years ago I became interested in scale precision aerobatics with the International Miniature Aerobatic Club and have been flying competition for those years. I have been flying the Unlimited class since 2003 with qualifying and flying in the Tucson Shootout each year except for 2005. Presently I am serving my second two year term as South West Regional Director for the sixth states down in this corner of the United States. I serve on the Scale Aerobatics Contest Board and several committees for IMAC including the Education Committee. We have recently developed a fully functional flying and judging instructional program on line for IMAC, of which I am particularly proud.
As a retired educator, these last ten years, I have enjoyed building large (40%) aircraft for IMAC competition and now play with all sorts of electric aircraft as well at the Silent Electric Club of San Diego, my other major club affiliation.
My wife and I enjoy traveling to 6 or 7 contests each year in the South West. In my capacity as AVP I have personally visited clubs and events in Southern California but more specifically as an AMA representative, my main interests lie in what is going on in San Diego County.
